Act 1: I'm going to miss my son very much after he leaves to go to Paris. I am happy that the king let him leave, but I will miss him so. I hope that he does well, and that he will visit often. My daughter Ophelia is young and naive, but has good intentions. I don't hate Hamlet, but I do not trust him with her. She is so innocent, but I know she will obey my wishes and no longer associate with him. I must keep a close eye on him though. I have much respect for the new King, because he chose me to counsel him. I believe that late King Hamlet would have been happy that his dear brother took over the throne. I hope that his and Gertrude’s marriage is a happy one, at least she is no widow. The question is, are hamlet's intentions true? There's something more about him than just offering 'affection' to my daughter. He is still dressed in black for heaven’s sake, I really must watch him. Why would he still be mourning the death of his father when his gracious uncle has stepped in? I hope my children are happy and make the right decisions, we will see how the new king rules over the kingdom of Denmark.
"Be thou familiar but by no means vulgar. Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,Grapple them unto thy soul with hoops of steel,But do not dull thy palm with entertainmentOf each new-hatched, unfledged comrade. BewareOf entrance to a quarrel, but being in,Bear ’t that th' opposèd may beware of thee.Give every man thy ear but few thy voice.Take each man’s censure but reserve thy judgment.Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy,But not expressed in fancy—rich, not gaudy,For the apparel oft proclaims the man,And they in France of the best rank and stationAre of a most select and generous chief in that.Neither a borrower nor a lender be,For loan oft loses both itself and friend,And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. This above all: to thine own self be true,And it must follow, as the night the day,Thou canst not then be false to any man.(pg.47)" Act 2: I have sent my servant reynaldo to find out what Laertes is up to. I am not really worried, because I know that he is a good boy, but I want to make sure that he is okay and what the people of Paris think of him. I hope that what I find out will be good news. I know it will be so. On the other hand, Hamlet has sure gone crazy with love. For him to impose his craziness on my daughter is unacceptable though. I had to take action and talk to the King and Queen Gertrude. I know that he trusts me especially if I have wagered my position and assistance to him. I will get to the bottom of this and figure out Hamlet's intentions but I suspect that he has really just lost it. The King and I decided to hide behind the tapestry in order to find out Hamlets true intentions! I know tat I am right, that Hamlet loves my daughter too much. The King will see what I mean!Poor Ophelia to be caught up in all of this.I would fear for her soul as well, but she has so far told me everything that Hamlet has done and I take her word for it. Why would she have any reason to lie to me unless she loves Hamlet Back? But this isn't love, its only childish games. Oh, I wish I had someone to confide in!
"Hath there been such a time—I would fain know that—That I have positively said, “'Tis so,”When it proved otherwise?" Act 3:
I know that Hamlet is really in love with Ophelia! The King doesn't believe me but I'll show him! Hamlet is raving lunatic and someone has to believe other than me that it caused by his outrageous love my daughter. I will hide in Gertrude's chamber and prove my point. I urged her to help me and try to bring out Hamlet's true feelings so we can get to the bottom of this mess.
Later: Hamlet has killed me, by mistake perhaps?! How can this be! I am so confused, was Hamlet angry because he knew I told Ophelia to ignore his love requests?! I do not know. I do not know anything. I still believe Hamlet is in love with Ophelia, this must be why I am dead! I hope she still obeys my requests even after I have gone. I will miss my children so very much! "It shall do well. But yet do I believe
Sprung from neglected love" Act 4: Hamlet has hid my body away. Will my children ever know the truth!? How will he explain this to them? How will explain this to Denmark, how will he explain this to his father, the king?! Unless Claudius has been in on it the whole time! I do not know anything; in time maybe truth will reveal itself. I hope that my son Laertes will be able to figure out the truth since Ophelia has been overcome with grief, and has killed herself!!! I have never seen such a sadder instance. I want Laertes to take revenge against crazed Hamlet and all that he has done to hurt my family! I pray to god that he, my only child left will make it through this after losing his father and sister to the royal imbecile!!!!!!!!! "Compounded it with dust, whereto tis kin."-Hamlet Act 5: I cannot believe that I was so wrong about everything! Claudius that lying scoundrel deceived and betrayed me! He had it for my family since the beginning. I hope he ends up in the deepest pits of hell where he belongs! I cannot believe everything ended this way, with everyone dead. At least Claudius’s life ended as well, and I know that Laertes defended my honor, and our family's honor until the end. Oh what a tragedy! "I am satisfied in nature, Whose motive in this case should stir me mostTo my revenge. But in my terms of honorI stand aloof, and will no reconcilementTill by some elder masters, of known honor,I have a voice and precedent of peaceTo keep my name ungored. But till that timeI do receive your offered love like loveAnd will not wrong it."
